THE SAFEGUARDING OFFICER
is responsible for implementing the Diocesan Safeguarding policy. This key voluntary post is the public focus for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults in our churches. The Safeguarding Officer also ensures that everyone involved receives training in Identifying Safeguarding issues. He/she has ex-officio membership of PCC.
Training and on-going support/mentoring are provided.
Do you have professional experience or knowledge of Safeguarding (perhaps as a teacher, social worker, foster parent, health visitor, childminder or work in HR)? Are you approachable and supportive and, ideally, someone independent who is not currently an office-holder or working with our children or vulnerable adults? Could you perform this vital role?
works with the Safeguarding Officer, The Churches’ Agency for Safeguarding (CAS) and the diocese to make sure we use the correct procedures for recruitment and individual DBS clearance. He/she also keeps our records up-to-date. We are looking for an organised and computer-literate volunteer to guide applicants through the DBS clearance process. Discretion and confidentiality are important too. This is not an arduous task and training is provided.
